Sylvie says, "Noise affects us all." Particularly city-dwellers. Noise is everyone's problem - we make it and are victims of it. The SYLVIE (short for "Systematic Noise Abatement in Inner City Residential Areas" in German) project is serve as an honest broker between the two sides. In the past, technical noise abatement schemes had often broken down over the nature of noise, because it is subjective. That's why SYLVIE focuses on cooperation between all concerned. For three years, from 1999 until October 2002, Vienna is the scene of a unique noise abatement procedure. This site tells you what SYLVIE does. The SYLVIE project is finished. What we learned from it is still relevant.This website will stay online as a documentation of the project and of itself. We hope that there will be many "SYLVIE-descendants" in other neighbourhoods and cities! >
