Housing Development - Seefeldergasse

First prize with junger_beer Architekten & Arch. Clemens Kirsch on behalf of the contractor BWS, excerpt from the jury’s comments:

"The well-differentiated positioning of the open spaces belonging to the individual apartments, both at ground and top-storey level, creates scope for flexibility. The concept of a structure of alternating pathways and squares and the proposition of a soft transitional zone to the grassland are clearly defined and meet the requirement of cross-linking the urban space with its environs." Housing Development Mannswörther Straße

PlanSinn was commissioned by WBG - Wohnen und Bauen Gesellschaft m.b.H. Vienna with designing the open spaces for the Mannswörtherstrasse housing development. In cooperation with the architects RWS – raum-werk-stadt architekten ZT gmbH, the planning team developed an open space concept focused on accommodating the needs of the new development while consistently and coherently reconciling the design with the given architecture.

The open spaces within the compact building site were broken down into three central areas. The belt that constitutes the central entrance axis, which has an east-west alignment, is lined by gravel paths and bands of shrubs and perennials, thus creating an additional play and communication area. A north-south belt with a play table as its central element spans the distance between the street entrance and the grassy area extending to the north of the site on an equal level with the buildings. Green courtyards between the rearside buildings function as retreat and recreation areas within the development. Shady trees are to be planted in these spaces.

Housing Development -Penzinger Hauptstraße

Commissioned by BWS, PlanSinn is designing the open spaces for a residential development in the Vienna district of Penzing. The location of the buildings on the banks of the Wien River offers the opportunity to attune the open spaces to the river environment.

The flow movement is recreated using river gravel as a design element on the pathways from the main road down to the communal terraces on the banks of the Wien River. The permeable areas will be planted with shrubs and grasses. The central courtyard, which accommodates a number of communal facilities, is located on the opposite bank of the river and reached via a wooden footbridge that spans the river on equal level with the buildings.
