Sustainable development in Wieden – a do-it-yourself approach
Since 2005 PlanSinn has been managing the Local Agenda 21 process in the municipal district of Wieden. Active local residents, local politicians and the city administration have joined forces to foster Wieden's social, cultural, economic and ecological development.
The various stakeholders jointly defined a model for the sustainable development of the Wieden district, in the framework of which a number of different Agenda 21 groups are generating social innovations in their local area: the „Begegnungen in Sprache“ ("Encounters in Language") initiative organises intercultural readings, while "Begegnung im Freihausviertel" and the "Gehsteig-Guerilleros" are groups of local residents who promote non-commercial use of the open space outside their own front doors. A public gallery on the exterior wall of the Theresianischen Akademie private school livens up Argentinier Straße.
