BIS – online Barrier Information System for Vienna
Barrier-free routing is a particularly important instrument for enhancing the opportunities for mobility-challenged individuals to participate in social life. PlanSinn developed BIS in a transdisciplinary research team within the context of the ways2go research and development programme.
In dialogue with affected groups, technology experts and stakeholders, PlanSinn developed a barrier-free interactive routing tool for people with impaired mobility. The online tool synergistically uses authority and community data to trace the most suitable ways2go for individuals with impaired mobility. Representatives of the groups concerned were consulted at an early stage during drafting of the catalogue of requirements and involved in developing the prototype, which is being tested in a pilot area in the fourth district of Vienna.
