Social sharing - focus groups on housing for young people
PlanSinn ensured that potential residents were involved early on in the planning phase of a developers' competition for a housing development on the site of Vienna's former Northern Rail Terminal: 19 young people aged between 18 and 28 contributed their ideas and suggestions.
In two focus workshops based on the initial draft plans, the participants gave feedback to the planning team and the project developer ÖVW regarding the qualities of both the private space and the areas for communal use.
The outcome showed that although meeting spaces and areas for shared activities were deemed important and a number of potential residents welcomed opportunities to get involved, their views were highly nuanced and not necessarily shared by all. The focus was very much on a well-rounded and diverse living environment and not on the social aspect and participation per se.
PlanSinn documented the discussions in a video which ultimately formed part of the competition documents.
