Sensible use of food resources is a topic of concern to many, with huge quantities of food being thrown away every day. PlanSinn was commissioned by Municipal Department MA 22 (Environmental Protection) to develop regional solutions for more efficient use of food.
"Lebensmittel•Donaustadt" is a pilot project exploring the options for building up regional channels for passing on unneeded food. PlanSinn has already established two such collaborative projects: in future, surplus produce from Bach market gardeners will be used for afternoon cookery sessions at Hirschstetten Youth Centre, and a Spar supermarket on Kagraner Platz hands over surplus food to Stadlau Youth Centre once a week. Alongside these cooperations, PlanSinn initiated awareness-raising activities at neighbourhood fêtes, resulting in the establishment of a Pinterest community featuring projects, initiatives, advocates and events.
